Baltimore’s new-look offense showed flashes of explosiveness in a 13-7 victory over the Buffalo Bills.
And then the Buffalo Bills cant win, no matter how well their defence plays.
Last year, the Ravens repeatedly failed to come up with an important stop in the fourth quarter and lost nine games by eight points or fewer.
“I think that’s a pretty darn good defense over there”, Bills coach Rex Ryan said.
The Ravens are hoping for improvements in 2016 after last season’s disappointments.
Cornerback Jimmy Smith said the Ravens played fast because defensive coordinator Dean Pees streamlined the scheme.
“What he taught me personally is just how to play Ravens football”, Suggs said. That it blanketed Buffalo’s receivers so well might say more about how poor that Bills unit is, rather than how good the Ravens’ defensive backs are. The Bills managed just two yards of offense in the opening quarter and trailed 3-0 after Tucker hit a 50-yard field goal.
Compounding the offensive issues were penalties.
Early in the second quarter, the Bills made the game’s most critical mistake, leaving a safety to cover free-agent speedster Mike Wallace.
The second quarter would hold Baltimore’s one and only touchdown when Joe Flacco tossed a 66 yard pass to Mike Wallace to give the Ravens a 10-0 lead. For the Bills, though, it’s less about the Ravens and more about simply beating the teams in front of them while they potentially benefit from the New England Patriots’ loss of Tom Brady for the first four games of the season.

It’s finally Week 1, and it is time for the games that count.
