Burn Hazard Forces Samsung to Recall All Galaxy Note7 Phones
The US Consumer Product Safety Commission (CPSC) issued a formal recall of the Samsung Galaxy Note 7 on Thursday. The official recall page hosted by CPSC announces that approximately one million devices sold before September 15 (today) are being recalled.

Samsung has recieved 92 reports in the USA of batteries overheating, which includes 26 reports of burns and 55 reports of property damage, and including fires in cars and a garage.
It also announced its exchange program on that date, which let customers that had purchased a Note 7 trade it in for another device while they waited for safe units to arrive.
Sprint has officially stated that Samsung Galaxy Note 7 replacements will begin happening next week, on September 21st.
While Samsung hammered out its formal recall plan with US regulators, the FAA told airline passengers to turn off the phones when flying due to the safety risk.
“To those of you who love the Note, the most loyal customers in our Samsung family: We appreciate your passion and your patience”, Baxter said in the video.
The Department of Transportation is ordering airline passengers not to bring Samsung Galaxy Note 7 phones on planes unless they keep them turned off and don’t charge them during the flight.
Following Thursday’s formal recall, the FAA revised its warning.
Now that people will be able to get a replacement immediately in a store, it’s likely Note 7 owners will replace their devices more quickly, said Gartner analyst Tuong Nguyen. It’s also worth mentioning that September 21st is the absolute latest that customers can expect replacements to be available in the US according to Samsung’s earlier statement on the matter.
Outside the U.S., Samsung has offered other solutions to consumers.
Exchange their current Note7, and any Note7 specific accessories, for a Galaxy S7 or S7 edge with a refund of the price difference between the products.
The recall came at a particularly bad time for Samsung.
