Police have not yet determined the cause of the explosion, but a member of the forensics team investigating the scene said initial indications are it was an accident.

Police and investigators examine a ferry boat which was carrying tourists from the island of Bali to Lombok following an explosion on board at Padangbai port, Karangasem, Bali, Indonesia September 15, 2016, in this photo taken by Antara Foto. According to the BBC, there was one foreign female victim, possibly German, but her nationality has yet to be officially confirmed. “Indonesia has a poor maritime safety record and there have been similar incidents in the past where no foul play was detected”.

“One of the passengers died from bad injuries after being hit by boat debris that also caused injuries in others”, Karangasen district police chief Sugeng Sudarso said, as quoted by The Independent.

A passenger document shows there were tourists from the UK, France, Italy, Portugal, Ireland and Spain on board.
