Talking in the Evening Standard, Pochettino said, “Perhaps subconsciously, the speculation can affect you when you are in the process of negotiating your future”.

“Always the strikers are anxious when they don’t score but now he feels happy, we feel happy”.

You know how he is, last season at Newcastle and the Euros what he did was fantastic.

When asked about Son’s possible exit during the summer window, Pochettino said: “Not only Son, different players”.

“I’m very happy for him”, Pochettino said.

Eriksen had been in negotiations with Tottenham since early last season and those talks have finally yielded an extended deal worth a reported £75,000 per week ($100,000, 90,000 euros).

Over the last three seasons Eriksen has certainly made an impact for his club – he has made 101 Premier League appearances, contributed a goal in on average almost one in two as well as providing 46 combined goals and assists.

Hughes was sent to the stands in the first half after leaving the technical area as Stoke, who have one point from their opening four league games, remain rooted to the bottom of the standings. He is a player who can bring a lot of experience and who is fit and strong and I think he will help us a lot.

Pochettino’s talisman scored just eight goals last term, his worst return yet in a Tottenham shirt.

Tottenham will open their Champions League campaign this Wednesday when they host Ligue 1 outfit AS Monaco at Wembley Stadium, which they have sold out for the game.

“The depth of the squad is very important, they have to fight for a place in the starting 11; with seven games in 23 days, we need all the players ready to compete and play”.

Pochettino, however, refused to pick out a danger-man for the Potters, adding: “It is hard to guess because we don’t have the information”.
