Android Nougat for Nexus 6 and Nexus 9 LTE still “weeks” away

But according to Android Police, Google said that they are rolling out the update on these devices in the coming weeks. Looks like the old versions of Android are slowly but steadily dying, but given their long presence even after years of their release, it shows that some Android users have continued to stick with their old smartphones. The numbers point out that Marshmallow is now at 18.7 percent, which is an increase of 3.5 percent from 15.2 percent since last month.

On a cumulative basis, Android versions 5.0/5.1 Lollipop touch 35 % of all devices, which is a tiny drop of 0.5% from the previous month.

Google has just released the Android Distribution Chart for September and we have to say that it’s rather late, considering that it’ nearly the middle of the month and usually the numbers are released during the first days of the month.

Although Marshmallow is making some progress in eating into Lollipop and KitKat, there are still devices that run the elderly versions of Android.

The Verge has shared how to install Android 7.0 Nougat now and enjoy its features. KitKat sees a decrease by 1.5 percent, Jelly Bean by 1.1 percent, and Ice Cream Sandwich and Gingerbread by 0.2 percent. What’s surprising to see is that Android’s ancient version (Froyo 2.2) still stands at a meager 0.1 percent, which was the same in last month’s Android distribution list. Google began rolling out the new operating system as an over-the-air update to compatible Google Nexus devices in August, with Android One devices slated to receive the update next. Android Nougat is a significant update over Marshmallow, as it adds new design elements to notifications.
