“Manchester United boss Jose Mourinho hails Ander Herrera for showing a ‘phenomenal attitude” in the second half of Saturday’s Manchester derby.

“The first half was their half and they got what they deserved”.

After entering the fray as a second-half substitute on Saturday, Rashford was only denied an equaliser against City when his shot deflected in off the Swede who, unfortunately, was in an offside position.

Given his side’s poor first-half performance in particular, the Portuguese trainer has harboured the blame for the defeat after his team selections. We had many counter-attacks.

“The derby, Man United, Man City, the focus, the attention, I felt that some of the guys felt it”.

“If you tell me that that’s not a penalty and a red card, I’ll tell you that for sure outside the box it is a free-kick and a red card”. Inside the box, it is more hard.

Champions League gets underway from Tuesday night but Mourinho will have to watch the action unfold away from the sidelines. “I trust him completely and I know his future will be absolutely brilliant”.

“The arm behind the body, he knows that the cross is not going in his face, it’s going in his back, and he drops the elbow back, so two penalties”. The first arm is the one that is close to his body.

“In football, it’s about how you react to mistakes – it shows character”.

Mourinho also said referee Mark Clattenburg should have awarded penalties for an incident in which Bravo took down Rooney and an alleged handball by City centre-back Nicolas Otamendi. Mourinho said. “The kid Jesse, how many times has he played big matches?”

“I didn’t change after 20 minutes because I don’t want to destroy the players”.

“I think maybe for some guys it’s a new beginning”.
