Israel’s military denied on Tuesday a report on Syrian state media that an Israeli warplane and a drone were shot down after an Israeli attack on a Syrian army position.
The Israeli military said its aircraft attacked targets in Syria hours after the mortar bomb from fighting among factions in Syria struck the Golan Heights.
The Syrians “aimed for the Israeli jet, they didn’t even come close”, according to a senior Israeli defense official.
Syria’s army accused Israel of supporting “the armed terrorist groups” operating in Quneitra province.
“The IDF will not tolerate any attempt to harm Israel’s sovereignty and security of its citizens”, the statement said, adding Israel holds the Syrian government responsible for any weapons launched into its territory.

Last week, Israel fired back at posts of the Syrian army three times. The mortar likely was spill-over from the civil war.
