PIERSON: Donald Trump has denounced David Duke on a number of occasions.
Politico co-founder Jim VandeHei then chimed in to say that Pence’s reluctance to call Duke deplorable was just another example of how Trump’s embrace of racist rhetoric has infect everyone around him – even people who should know better.
Pence was asked about Duke on CNN Monday and refused to call him deplorable. Democratic vice presidential nominee Tim Kaine hit Pence over the exchange at a campaign event in Ann Arbor, Michigan, on Tuesday, saying, “If you can’t call it out and you stand back and you’re silent about it, you’re enabling it to grow, you’re enabling it to become more powerful”.
It’s a notable change in tone from Trump’s visit to Capitol Hill in early July, when he clashed with some Republican members.
“I doubt you could have a better spokesman for someone than Mike Pence”, Corker said. Certainly, Clinton’s statement lends credence to the widespread sentiment that she does not relate to the everyday American. While Ryan and his leadership team emphasized similarities between the desires of the Trump campaign and House Republicans, Senate Republicans heaped much less praise on their nominee and his messenger after their meeting with Pence.

According to his office, Republican Senator Mike Lee today spoke with Pence and told him, quote, ‘Republicans must identify David Duke’s racism as deplorable.’ Lee also encouraged the Trump campaign to be explicit in its denunciation of the alt right movement. Roger Wicker, R-Miss., would not say whether the meeting with Pence was focused on policy, however. Corker said senators had constructive suggestions for the Trump-Pence ticket, including to articulate fully as to what they envision the country to be and what issues the nation is facing.
Her first comments about her health condition came in a CNN interview late Monday, a day after a dizzy spell caught on video forced her to disclose the illness and cancel a West Coast campaign trip.

With his daughter Ivanka at his side, Trump also appeared to support equal pay for women, traditionally a core issue for Democrats.

For example, in a stream of tweets on August 14, Trump said mainstream media is “disgusting and corrupt”, putting “false meaning” into his words and not properly covering his rallies. He’s accused her of being involved with Russia – despite his frequent praise of Russian President Vladimir Putin and his own campaign’s ties to the strong man.
Duke is a white nationalist and former Grand Wizard of the Ku Klux Klan who has endorsed Trump.
