Kashmir MP likens PDP-BJP alliance to Nazi rule, quits
Senior PDP leader Tariq Karra has resigned from the party and as an MP as a protest against the killings of civillians. According to a report in India Today, Karra had said that the alliance did not give anything apart from “broken promises” to the party, stating, it was an unnatural alliance in the first place and should not have been forged in the first place. Despite knowing that BJP was ideologically backed by Rashtriya Swayamsevak Sangh (RSS), the coalition was made for development of state… The party, Karra claimed, had been created to act as an “obstructer”. Blaming Chief Minister Mehbooba Mufti for the current situation in the Valley, he said that government has completely failed to deal with the unrest.

Karra resignation could begin the spree of exits from PDP, which is facing massive anguish from people in Kashmir.
“The Grand mosque (Jamia Masjid) of Srinagar was closed and people were not allowed to offer Eid prayers”. He said his party was against the pellets but when it assume power it started using more lethal ammunition on people. “My conscience can not take it any longer”, Karra said.
“My heart is bleeding and my soul is crying for the people of my homeland”, Karra said.
Karra alleged that the Central and state governments policies of “unabated genocide”, continued denial of the unsafe ground realities, insensitive and adhoc approach towards Kashmir issue and blatant policy of dealing with Kashmiris by way of “oppressive, repressive and suppressive measures” were the other reasons for his resignation. Karra won from Srinagar-Budgam.
BJP legislator from Jammu Ravinder Raina struck back at Karra, accusing him of deserting the party as his whims were seemingly ignored by the government.
“His hand twisting attitude and imperialistic methods towards Kashmir issue and issues of Kasmhmir added fuel to the fire”.
“I would tell the aforementioned public representatives that we are placed at a very critical juncture and that remaining silent would be equivalent to facilitate the fascist forces for more death, destruction and decimation of our distinct identity”, he said.

Asked which side he was going now, Karra said the question was misplaced because anybody and everybody should try to help save Kashmir from the bloodletting regardless of which side of the ideological divide people are. He is one of the architects of PDP’s self-rule document and has served as finance minister of the state during the PDPCongress regime in 2002-2008. “I only preferred a lesser evil”.
