Regal Cinemas releases plan to search all bags

While no official announcement has been made, reports of theaters searching bags have been made public, and the company’s website does mention the possibility that your bag could be searched.

“Security issues have become a daily part of our lives in America”, a section of the Admittance Procedures says on the Regal Entertainment Group’s website. An employee for our sister station ABC-13 noticed the change this past Saturday when she went to see a movie at the Regal Entertainment Group-owned Edwards Greenway Grand Palace off Weslayan. The movie theater chain hasn’t said what’s behind the new policy, only stating that it’s in place to “ensure the safety of our guests and employees”. What used to be a nice, relaxing trip to the movies now has me on a heightened sense of alert anytime someone remotely suspicious enters.

Regal Entertainment Group (NYSE:RGC) last posted its quarterly earnings data on Thursday, July 30th. He likes games, sports, musicals, and his adorable dog, Wrigley, and his wife.

Many on social media have complained the new policy is a way to prevent moviegoers from bringing in food from the outside, while others complain there should be advance clear warning that bags can be checked.

“Two weeks ago we were here”. Some on the Regal Columbus Stadium 12 Facebook page claim the new policy is turning them away. I’d also be willing to bet real money that Regal’s policy doesn’t have the first clue how to search a purpose-designed concealed carry purse or bag, and that theater goers will have no problem whatsoever using them to get firearms into theaters if they so desire.

Another poster said, “Do you guys want to go out of business?”

“For safety, I think it’s a good policy”, said one person who preferred not to be identified.

“I was shocked, that people would yell for something like this”, Ms. Armfield said.
