Informed sources said a CBI team had reached Siwan to probe the case. The Controversial RJD strongman was granted bail in the 2014 murder of Rajiv Roshan, son of Chandrakeshwar Prasad.
The state government had issued a notification requesting the CBI to take over the investigation of the murder case on May 16. However, the CBI team has not contacted us so far, Ranjans widow Asha Ranjan told the media.
The case has again come into limelight as a photograph appeared of absconding suspects Mohammad Kaif and Mohammad Javed with Shahbuddin after his release from Bhagalpur jail on Saturday last on bail granted by Patna High Court. He had got bail in connection to almost 12 other cases earlier.
Advocate Prashant Bhushan mentioned the case before a bench comprising chief justice T.S. Thakur and justice A.M. Khanwilkar.
Chandrakeshwar Prasad alleged that his own life was in danger with the release of Shahabuddin, who was earlier convicted for the murder of his two sons.
The Bihar government had faced a lot of criticism from several quarters after Shahabuddin, who has dozens of cases against him, was released on bail.
A delegation of the NDA recently met Bihar Governor Ram Nath Kovind, seeking cancellation of his bail and imposition of Crime Control Act (CCA) on Shahabuddin. “Witnesses won’t depose against Shahabuddin out of fear”, he said.

Amid the increasing demand of his arrest, the state government too is now said to be mulling to challenge Shahabuddins bail in the Supreme Court.
