AAMU head coach supports NFL and College Players protesting-during-national-anthem

As the NBA prepares to open training camps – and the issue of athletes’ protests during the national anthem shows no signs of abating – it was only a matter of time before basketball players would be asked about what they plan to do. Kaepernick was benched midseason past year after completing just 59 percent of his passes for 1,615 yards with six touchdowns to five interceptions, but many believed he could excel in Kelly’s up-tempo offense.

In his statement, Kaepernick attributed his stance to unchecked, violent police behavior towards African Americans. While not everyone agrees on Kaepernick’s methods, it’s clear that his actions have struck a chord. “To me, you’re telling me that my position as a backup quarterback and being quiet is more important than peoples’ lives”, said Kaepernick who was booed while taking the field before the 49ers’ 28-0 home victory over the Rams. “There are bodies in the street and people getting paid leave and getting away with murder”, he told NFL Media.

There has been plenty of talk this year about social injustice. With so much passion, he may have not considered the potential consequences for doing such a thing. In the 2014-15 season, many league players wore “I Can’t Breathe” T-shirts during warmups to protest the grand jury’s decision in Eric Garner’s death. Kaepernick began his protest back on August 26 before the start of the third preseason game.

Kaepernick did a courageous act.

The Republican presidential candidate stands up and bashes everything about this country on television and it’s broadcast all across the globe, but we don’t think twice about his disrespect for America. However, one thing I know for sure. And when someone in this country is willing to face the scrutiny and negative response that comes with their protest, we should all recognize there is probably something worth considering in their cause.

“He’s 100% right. Freedom of speech is everyone’s right”.

No one was harmed during his protest. Why is he condemned for speaking the truth? I can understand why some fans, especially ones with friends and relatives in the military, are angry at Kaepernick. Whether the jerseys are worn to show support, as carried out by rapper J. Cole, or burned in outrage, Kaepernick is donating the jersey sales to communities in need, per ESPN.
