The Premier League champions were handed a glimmer of hope just before half-time when Jamie Vardy took advantage of Lucas’s awful back pass.

Saturday’s victory capped a memorable day for Liverpool, who were playing their first home game of the season following the expansion of the club’s Main Stand at Anfield. “This is challenge for the whole season”.

“Immediately when the Kop started singing, “Jurgen Klopp”, (Leicester) were alone in front of (Liverpool goalkeeper) Simon Mignolet”.

“This season the league is a lot stronger, but yes, of course they have a chance”.

“Not at all going to be an easy game, especially with their tails being up after the result they’ve had against Leicester the champions”, he explained on Chelsea TV.

They travel to Belgium to play Club Brugge on Wednesday. “It’s not about pressing, it’s about the second balls”, he stated.

The Leicester manager was gracious in defeat, and praised the performance of Liverpool.

“One of our strengths last season was when we lost a match we had a very good reaction and I’m waiting for a good reaction now in Bruges”. “We didn’t quite hit the standards that we know we can and they punished us”.

“We have a Champions League game to look forward to, we will wipe the slate clean and work on that. It will be another kind of football but we are ready”, he said.

“Everything they tried to do was okay and it was hard for us”.

“I have to say, because I don’t know how else I can say this, please don’t sing my name before the game is decided”.

“At the end it was a great performance over 90 minutes”, Klopp told BT Sport.
