Offbeat | Man accused of mailing dead animals to school job winner

An Indiana man who authorities say mailed dead animals to a school, fabricated stories of sex abuse and made death threats because he didn’t get a desired job, was charged Tuesday, according to court documents. And that was the least gruesome part of his response.

A 40-year-old IN man is facing multiple felony charges for stalking, intimidation and criminal mischief. The harassment is alleged to have occurred over several months. Police say he began harassing the successful applicant and his fiancee in a variety of ways that range from freakish to disgusting and that were probably downright frightening for the couple.

Or, if you’re Travis Tarrants, you can mail a bunch of dead animals to the person who beat you.

One of the packages intercepted at a post office contained a dead raccoon and a message that said, “Resign! It will not stop”, according to WXIN-TV. His fiancee was again listed as the sender and also contained a message that said “RESIGN!”

Two more packages were intercepted by the Indianapolis Post Office. One was listed as being sent from Medora High School’s athletic director and the other was listed as being from the basketball coach at Brownstown High School. Both were addressed to the victim.

“It’s freaky, its just hard to believe”, said Charles Murphy, Jackson County Sheriff’s jail commander. “The post office gets these packages that smell like skunks, blood coming from them”, and called police.

Tarrants’ fiancee has reported that he had trapped several live skunks late last spring, WISH-TV said. It’s unclear whether these are the same skunks. Tarrants also is accused of spray painting “u will die” and an expletive on vehicles belonging to the victims.

Letters were sent to both victims at their place of business, making claims of a sexual relationship with an underage student. One contained a picture of a man’s genitals and the teacher/coach’s telephone number.

Packages containing four skunks and a raccoon were mailed to the victim’s workplace and home from different addresses, including that of Tarrants’ fiancee and the victim’s fiancee. He was being held without bond.
