Teacher serenaded by students in viral video dies

A cancer-stricken teacher who was serenaded by hundreds of his students earlier this month has died. The school announced his death in an email sent to parents. “Today, Ben entered heaven fully healed; he is home”, the letter read, according to the news station.

More than 400 heartbroken students flocked to a beloved teacher’s front yard in the middle of the school day to sing hymns after hearing he was to discontinue treatment for his cancer.

The video shows Mr Ellis watching the group from a window and singing along. Our thoughts and Prayers are with him and his family. He said, “I love you”. Elementary and Preschool students will be informed of Ellis’ death by their parents discretion. I wish all this for you. “Look to Jesus to know, to believe, and to be filled.'” Ellis taught Latin and Bible studies, but recently had to stop teaching while undergoing chemotherapy and radiation.

A year after being diagnosed with an aggressive cancer, Ellis, who had been teaching at the school for eight years, had made a decision to stop treatment.

In the six days since McGraw posted the video, it has been viewed more than 29 million times and shared more than 565,000 times. “Peace. I also felt very loved; I already felt loved by God, but it was extra meaningful that God poured his love out to me through 500 people who loved me so well”, Ellis wrote earlier this week. “Ben is my son. He, his wife and children are a attractive family”.

Writing on his CaringBridge page, Ellis thanked the students and staff at CPA: “Last Wednesday, the entire CPA high school came and sang songs of praise and worship under my bedroom window”.
