“When Hurricane Hermine hit Florida’s Gulf Coast earlier this month, heavy rains produced flooding and caused several manatees to be displaced in a pond on a golf course in Crystal River”, the FWC wrote.

Manatees are trapped in a Citrus County pond.

“As far as I know, especially if they’re clearing them for release, they’re healthy”, Garrett said.

But today, the manatees’ vacation is over.

Florida Fish and Wildlife Conservation Commission officers began the rescue effort Thursday morning. The process is not easy; volunteers are using nets to lure the animals in, put them on massive stretchers and carry them back to the canal.

Initially, two mothers and their calves were pulled from the pond, and as the day wore on, more manatees were found.
