An observance of National POW/MIA Recognition Day is scheduled in Salem City Friday evening, organizers say.

One veteran at the ceremony told News 4 about his experience as a POW after he his B-24 bomber were shot down in northern Italy during World War Two.

The Town of Spring Lake honored prisoners of war on Friday, as well as soldiers killed in the Vietnam War. The empty chairs represent Americans who were or are missing from each of the services, Army, Marine Corps, Navy, Air Force, and Coast Guard, “and civilians, all with us in spirit”, officials said.

The event also recognizes the families of POW/MIAs. We as a nation must never forget their sacrifices and we must pledge to bring them home. Many Americans take the time to remember those who were prisoners of war and those who are missing in action, as well as their families.
