Omolayo set a new record of 138kg in Day 5 of the events as she lived to her reputation as the favorite for the title.
She lifted 140kg to equal the Paralympics Record (PR) to usurp France’s Souhad Ghazouani who previously was in the lead.
Innocent Nnamdi on Sunday, also won Bronze in the men’s -72kg class in the Powerlifting event with a lift of 210kg.
The Economic Times points out this was the case even at the last Olympics/Paralympics-HN Girisha, who won a silver medal, was treated as a sideshow to those who excelled at the Olympics.
Ukrainian Paralympians are still ranked third in the medal table. She also won a Silver medal in London four years ago where she competed in the -56kg category.
If you look at gold medals per million of population, New Zealand slips to third with Fiji topping the list, and Jamaica rising to second spot.
Already the performances of Nigeria’s physically-challenged athletes has drowned their main Olympics counterparts who only managed a football bronze medal throughout the competition.
