Cowboys to sign Mark Sanchez

Yes, the Vikings have apparently made inquiries to the Denver Broncos about the possibility of acquiring quarterback Mark Sanchez in a trade.

At this point it is well known among the fans that Trevor Siemian is the starting quarterback, but it looks like Paxton Lynch is going to be the backup and quarterback of the future.

The announcement of the signing of Sanchez seemed to come pretty quickly on a day normally reserved for roster cuts, and the National Football League has taken notice.

Whatever the specific outcome, it’s now clear that Sanchez has fallen to No. 3 on the depth chart behind a pair of guys who have never thrown a regular-season pass in the NFL. Sanchez was signed to a one year deal, salary figures have not yet been announced. Nearly six months later, Sanchez was the odd man out, with a $4.5 million salary, three turnovers in 46 preseason snaps and no place on the depth chart.

Sanchez, who was recently released by the Broncos, has been with the Eagles for the last two season, followed by four seasons with the New York Jets, who drafted him with the No. 6 overall pick in 2009 NFL Draft. John Elway, the Broncos EVP of football operations and GM, detailed his “a long talk” with Sanchez about him being cut from the team.

In March, the Broncos traded a conditional seventh-round draft pick for Sanchez.

Hillman led the team in rushing last season, but played only sparingly in the Super Bowl when C.J. Anderson ran for 90 yards and Denver’s only offensive TD.

A person with knowledge of the agreement told The Associated Press on Saturday that Sanchez had agreed to a one-year contract that could be worth $2.5 million with incentives. In the two games the Broncos played him in, he barely threw for 200 yards on 30 pass attempts. Phillip Sims started the game and Logan Thomas played well in the second half, throwing for the game-winning touchdown. But will Mark Sanchez make the Broncos’ 53 man roster?

Once Romo is at 100 percent and ready to return to his starting position under center, Sanchez shouldn’t serve as much more than the third-string quarterback behind the entrenched veteran and the upstart rookie.
