Apple’s iPhone event is underway, but before announcing the iPhone 7 (on goal, anyway), they had Shigeru Miyamoto stop by to announce Nintendo’s first real mobile game, Super Mario Run, coming first to iOS.

Nintendo’s latest mobile game is an automatic runner.
During Apple’s annual event held in San Francisco, ‘Super Mario Bros.’ creator Shigeru took stage to introduce “Super Mario Run”. With simplicity underpinning its design, players are required to tap to jump – holding longer seeing Mario leap even higher.
Nintendo has announced the first official Super Mario game for mobile, Super Mario Run. In an interview with IGN, Shigero said that the game will be available to Android users come next year. Surprisingly, the game has already been listed on the App Store without a price and is unavailable to download as of now. Based on gameplay footage, Super Mario Run is side-scrolling “runner”-style platformer optimized for one-handed play on touchscreen”. Nintendo says the game will support three discrete game modes, the first straightforward courses where you’re maneuvering over obstacles and collecting coins. A set of Super Mario stickers will also be offered for iMessage, on the same day of the Super Mario Run debut.

“In this game, you constantly move forward through the courses while using a variety of jumps to navigate”, reads the game’s blurb. Set to be a timed-exclusive for iPhone and iPad, Super Mario Run was announced by Nintendo during today’s Apple press conference.
