The ESPN broadcast featured everything: BBQ, love for the Royals, even Curt Schilling saying the phrase “I am a heterosexual”.

The Royals have now won six of the eight games on this homestand.

In the end, a ninth-inning rally and an extra-innings victory gave yet another sellout crowd reason to celebrate an already fantastic season in Kansas City. But the streaking Royals wasted no time matching the run, then blowing right past it. Alcides Escobar, shockingly, swung at the first pitch and reached on a single. The bouncing ball gave Ben Zobrist trouble.

Royals outfielder Alex Gordon, on the disabled list since July 9 because of a severe groin strain, will begin a rehabilitation assignment soon, the Kansas City Star reported.

Dyson, who doubled and stole third before Zobrist knocked him in, is having a terrific day. They have been on a bit of a dry streak over their last 10 games. Santiago appeared to deliver strike three to Salvador Perez, but the sweeping breaking ball was ruled inside.

Santiago (7-6) has struggled in five starts since the All-Star break.

The triumph followed a pair of late-game meltdowns at Kauffman Stadium. It was Perez’s first career ejection. As for the pitchers, the Royals are the fifth-best team in the AL at limiting hits to their opponents, allowing only 8.2 hits per game so far this season.

Anderson, who had never faced Cincinnati, struck out three and walked two on 103 pitches in six innings.

Matt Shoemaker got shelled in his one start in Kansas City last year, and the 2015 result wasn’t that much different.

Greg Holland got the last three outs for his 26th save. Hosmer led off the frame with a walk.

“I feel good in those type of situations and I’m full concentration and I’m looking for a good pitch to hit”, Morales said with coach Pedro Grifol acting as his interpreter.

That’s when Alex Rios tied the game with a sacrifice fly, marking the fourth blown save of Street’s season.

A loss in the finale and a win by the Orioles would drop the Angels out of a playoff spot for the first time since July 2.

Shoemaker allowed six runs in the 9-4 loss to the Royals.

Kelvin Herrera (4-2) pitched a ideal 10th to pick up the victory. I had him 1-2. By the time Eric Hosmer added a run-scoring single and Perez an RBI double in his second at-bat of the inning, the Royals had built a 6-1 lead. He spent the first 13 years with Kansas City, the club that drafted in the 10th round in 1991 as a high school catcher from California.
