Southern rail passengers face more disruption as two-day strike begins
No trains or rail-replacement bus services ran from the station during the RMT union’s last walkout in August and afterwards MP Nus Ghani wrote to rail operator Govia Thameslink Railway (GTR) and raised her concerns with Transport Secretary Chris Grayling.

Many routes will have fewer trains, while others will have none at all, with many parts of the network seeing trains start late and finish early.
The union said it supported DPAC claims that Govia Thameslink’s plans to change the role of conductors (guards) and station staff represent an offence under the Equality Act 2010 by making it more hard for disabled people to travel.
The Association of British Commuters (ABC) began crowdfunding today and has sought seek legal advice as it looks to seek a judicial review of the Department for Transport decision-making in relation to the rail company that it said was making passengers’ lives a “daily misery”.
Southern said it had put 119 trains back into its temporary weekday timetable, restoring the entire inner London metro service so that nearly all London Bridge peak trains are now running, and tripling the number of trains operating on the West London Line.
“The guards action from tomorrow on Southern goes ahead as planned”.
“We have guaranteed all our onboard staff a job until the end of the franchise, with no reduction in salary”.
Mr Brown – who said that he commutes to work by Tube every morning, taking him 50 minutes in standing-room only carriages – apologised to passengers for the disruption to services.
“RMT’s fight is with the company and the Government, who have dragged this franchise into total meltdown”.
Go-Ahead said it plans to move ahead with introducing new on-board train supervisors, saying it is a “step in the right direction”.
The Association of British Commuters announced it will work with Devonshires Solicitors to fund a Judicial Review into the Department for Transport, with “real determination to hold the Government to account”.
Southern has made a new offer to RMT, including a promise to have a second staff member on as many trains as possible, but this was rejected.
“Just a fraction of these profits would be enough to keep the guards on Southern trains, keep the passengers safe and resolve the industrial dispute between RMT and the company. We share the anger and frustration of passengers and we can not sit back while jobs and safety are compromised on these dangerously overcrowded trains”.
