We Should Have Expected Fallon’s Giggly Interview With Trump
On Thursday night’s episode of The Tonight Show, host Jimmy Fallon seized the chance to discover the truth. As Trump mugged for the cheering audience, Fallon promised, “I’ll be gentle”.

Twitter users went as far as suggesting Fallon ruffling Trump’s hair was equivalent to ruffling Hitler’s moustache.
When Fallon asked if he always saw himself getting into politics, Trump said “I really never did, I probably wouldn’t have done numerous shows that I’ve done over the years if I had”, referencing his reality series The Apprentice and Celebrity Apprentice.
Now Fallon’s interview style can go back to being innocuous, and The Roots won’t have the shoulder the load of political dissent. “Fallon had the opportunity to do something-anything-that could challenge the candidate”. Can you imagine Johnny Carson or David Letterman handling Trump in a relatively similar fashion?
As a “powerful white man on TV”, Fallon can afford to treat Trump as a joke because to him “the idea of Trump in the White House is as harmless as your face on a pint of Ben and Jerry’s”, the Guardian argues.
Fallon also thanked Trump “for giving us the material that we are doing” because “you say some shocking things that I can not even believe”.
“Trump has appeared on “The Tonight Show” before and gotten similarly soft treatment, grinning and nodding through Fallon’s cheeseball questions and gleeful impressions of the candidate”, the Atlantic chastised Fallon Friday. Moderated by Lester Holt, it will be the first time the presidential hopefuls will battle it out in public.

A “Tonight Show” representative didn’t immediately respond to Business Insider’s request for comment. Trump told Fallon he suggests the debate doesn’t have a moderator so that they can’t “game the system” against him.
