The show also has nominees in the writing and directing categories. “This show was better than ever this year and it has no serious competition”.
Peter Dinklage and Kit Harington in a still from Game of Thrones.
The streaming services, which have begun to make inroads with shows including “Transparent”, might also reap more honours for shows including “House of Cards”.
Kelsey Grammer remains the only actor to be nominated for the same role on three different TV shows. That includes a record quarter of the acting nominations going to people of color, after Viola Davis’ groundbreaking 2015 win for “How to Get Away With Murder”. To add to the excitement, there is not one or two but four actors from the series that are making their debut at the Emmys – John Travolta, Courtney B. Vance, John Travolta, Sterling K. Brown and Cuba Gooding Jr.
Everyone’s favorite ex will not be gracing the stage as a nominee at this year’s Emmy awards.
HBO was the big victor during last year’s Emmys, sweeping the best drama series (Game Of Thrones), best comedy series (Veep) and best limited series categories (Olive Kitterage) on its way 14 primetime Emmys wins and 43 total Emmy statuettes. A majority of the awards have already been handed out, but 27 of those awards remain sealed. The 68th Primetime Emmy Awards will be broadcast live Sunday on ABC beginning at 8 p.m. ET on ABC. The politically satirical show stars Julia Louis-Dreyfus and Tony Hale, and has just wrapped up its sixth season following the comedic rise of the fictional politician Selina Meyer.
And just like that, it’s Award Season once again. In the program categories, including best comedy and drama, all academy members are eligible to vote. Each of the major acting categories includes at least one minority nominee, including last year’s best-drama actress victor, Viola Davis. Her performance is spot on, and yet it has been left off the nomination list again in 2016. Lena Headey, who plays Cersei Lannister, is up for Outstanding Supporting Actress in a Drama Series, as is Emilia Clarke, as Daenerys Targaryen, and Maisie Williams, as Arya Stark. The show depicts a fictionalized version of the cut-throat political environment in the United States, as President Frank Underwood (Spacey) and his equally opportunistic wife (Wright) fight to remain in power by any means necessary.

There are several worthy Emmy nominations up for Outstanding Lead Actor in a Comedy. With shows like the two nominated above, the runaway hit that is Stranger Things, and its growing menagerie of Marvel shows, Netflix will continue to earn nominations. Even though 22 seems like a lot, it’s less than a third of its total nominations (75).
