By the smallest of margins on the scoreboard and on the bag, the Los Angeles Angels did it again.

Right-hander Jered Weaver (5-9) pitched 6 1/3 shutout innings to earn his first victory since May 30.

“There can be a little better focus with the pitcher who has to now know the guy who is in there”. The Angels’ longtime ace showed command and deception that made up for his pedestrian velocity, and he eventually left to a standing ovation.

Samardzija worked his way out of a bases-loaded jam with no outs in the second inning and also stranded runners on third in the third and fourth innings. The White Sox have lost four of their last five games and have scored three or fewer runs in six of their past seven contests. “That will be in your head for a while”.

The Sox put two on with one out in the ninth on Melky Cabrera’s single and J.B. Shuck’s walk, but Adam LaRoche, pinch hitting for Alexei Ramirez, grounded into a double play. “When you’re in attack mode in a 0-0 game, you need to be ahead in the count”.

Albert Pujols got the day off for the Angels, who were swept in a three-game series in Chicago last week during a 1-6 road trip. Both men had pitched three consecutive days; Scioscia opted for Smith. “I probably won’t be participating”. Chicago is 4-11 in their last 15 games against Los Angeles. For Thursday’s game the White Sox start Jose Quintana who has allowed 166 hits and 62 earned runs while striking out 131 over 154 innings for a 6-10 record and a 3.62 ERA. But manager Mike Scioscia appealed Estabrook’s call, which video replay overturned to end the game.
