Maverick Vinales has won the British Grand Prix in commanding fashion, which was his first career win – and Suzuki’s first victory since 2007.

Pole sitter Cal Crutchlow of LCR Honda continued his impressive form by finishing second ahead of the Yahama of Valentino Rossi, while Championship leader Marc Marquez was fourth.

Marquez lost further ground as Crutchlow and Andrea Iannone passed him in quick succession with the latter then overtaking the Englishman and Rossi to move into second with eight laps remaining.

Riders involved were Monster Tech3 Yamaha’s Pol Espargaro and Avintia Ducati’s Loris Baz.

The pair fought for the victory at Barcelona in June, a Rossi-won battle followed by a then-rare handshake between them, and their tussle for third place was a highlight of Sunday’s race at Silverstone.

He took Rossi for second and scrapped with Marquez until the two times champion overcooked it into Stowe and ran off-track.

“I think it was a fair fight between us”.

Three times MotoGP victor at Silverstone, Jorge Lorenzo, has qualified in ninth place on the grid.

Dani Pedrosa heads the second row, which is his best grid position since he took the final front row place at the Catalan Grand Prix.

Movistar Yamaha MotoGP rider Valentino Rossi celebrated the milestone of his 250th MotoGP start with a hard-fought third place at the Silverstone Circuit.
