Goal for Resettling Refugees in US Boosted by 30% for 2017
The Obama administration seeks to accept at least 110,000 refugees from around the world in fiscal 2017. A lot of them ended up in refugee camps in Thailand and have been resettled in countries around the world, including the U.S.

More than 4.8 million Syrians have fled their war-torn country but just one-fifth of 1 percent has been resettled in the US, according to the State Department.
“We are letting people come in from terrorist nations that shouldn’t be allowed because you can’t vet them”, Trump, who has built his campaign around an anti-immigration platform, said at a rally in Portland, Maine.
Jennifer Quigley, an advocacy strategist for nonprofit refugee protection group Human Rights First, said that, with the increased quota of refugee acceptance, the Obama administration is sending a message to other countries to accept more refugees as well. The Syrians were nearly all Sunni Muslims, according to federal Refugee Processing Center statistics.
But the Republican Party seems to be as divided as ever on refugees.
Albukaie said she understands fears about terrorism, but refugees go through a multi-year screening process.
Refugees are a highly divisive topic in this year’s election cycle, with Republican presidential nominee Donald Trump saying that refugees from “terrorist nations” should be barred entry to the United States. The latest example of Obama’s pushing the envelope came this week in announcing an even bigger inflow of “refugees” to America from war-torn corners of the world.
44% of those polls said the US should be doing more to alleviate the refugee crisis, while 19% said it should be doing less. According to multiple reports, Secretary of State John Kerry briefed lawmakers on the plan Tuesday.
The Obama administration is again saying it plans to admit more refugees – and presumably more Syrian refugees – which could have a direct impact in MI. Dean Heller (R-NV). When the administration announced its plan to welcome 10,000 Syrian refugees, Democratic nominee Hillary Clinton said the USA should accept 65,000 refugees from Syria.
“We can ensure optimal services for up to 300,000”. Our country is a great country.
The Syrian refugees arriving in Buffalo have not drawn much notice.
WASHINGTON ― President Barack Obama’s decision to bring 110,000 more refugees to America next year “is principled and is necessary”, Sen.
Right after the November terrorist attack in Paris, the House -with the help of a almost 50 Democrats- passed legislation that would have increased screenings – which often take more than a year already. In August, it reached its goal of admitting 10,000 Syrian refugees into the U.S.by end of 2016.
Then in the funding fight last winter, some conservatives argued that blocking money for Obama to resettle refugees was yet another way the Congress could try to stop Obama’s Syrian refugee resettlement. “Using Mr. Rector’s numbers as a baseline, admitting the 110,000 refugees that the Obama Administration proposes to admit beginning on October 1 will result in a total lifetime cost to the taxpayers of $71.5 billion”.

Communities are grappling with the influx of refugees, and the cost of housing and educating them.
