A spokesperson with Haywood County Emergency Management said when officers arrived, they found a man outside the church shooting.

Shots have reportedly been fired at North Carolina’s Maple Grove Baptist Church near Waynesville – close to Asheville, according to multiple news reports.
The shots were fired outside the church, Nichols said.
The shooter received medical treatment following an exchange of gunfire with law enforcement. No law enforcement officer was injured.
Several agencies responded to the scene, including the SBI.
A suspect is in custody after deputies say shots were fired at Maple Grove Baptist Church in Haywood County.
Law enforcement was in a stand-off with the suspect in the Bethel Community.
The man’s identity is not known at this time. Gunfire was exchanged between officers and the suspect, whose name has not been released.

The State Bureau of Investigation was called in to investigate, the sheriff’s office said.
