It’ll just be a showdown between Republican nominee Donald Trump and Democratic nominee Hillary Clinton on September 26.

The October 4 vice presidential debate will also be limited to the two major party nominees, Democratic Senator of Virginia Tim Kaine and Republican Governor of Indiana Mike Pence. It has proposed a plan to the CPD that would allow him to participate in the first presidential debate by initially circumventing the selection criteria.
Libertarian Gary Johnson on Tuesday announced that he will be the first third-party presidential candidate to appear on the ballot in all 50 states, plus Washington DC, since 1996.

Johnson says that while he’s disappointed in the CPD’s decision, he’s not surprised. The commission will run the numbers on its polls two more times and could potentially invite them to the second or third debates if their support swells.
But for right now, Politico reported, “Clinton’s national team and Democrats close to them chalk up Johnson-focused concerns to classic liberal panic”.

“Our ticket is clearly a factor in the presidential election and should be represented in the debates”, Johnson’s ad states.
