ITT Tech shuts down after federal ruling

A month after the US government banned ITT Technical Institute from taking any more students with federal loans, the for-profit college closed more than 130 campuses across 38 states. The department also said in a news release it would increase its financial oversight of ITT.

Two former employees at ITT Educational Services have filed a lawsuit against the school, claiming they did not receive 60 days notice of termination.

In a blog post released Tuesday, U.S Education Secretary John King said students now or recently enrolled at ITT, may be eligible to have their federal student loans dismissed. Those students also said they are having issues accessing their completed transcripts. “We have staff and faculty prepared to advise students on registration, enrollment and course curriculum”, said Dr. Michelle Howard-Vital, Executive VP and Provost of FMU.
