Man United beaten by Feyenoord

If you do it on an evening against a top team as Manchester United, that gives a wonderful feeling.

Manchester United manager Jose Mourinho was not a happy man after his side kicked off this season’s Europa League campaign with a defeat.

Tonny Vilhena scored the decisive goal for the Eredivisie side in the 79th minute as Nicolai Jorgensen’s cut-back cross found the 21-year-old midfielder free in the box to slot home.

“I am not saying (it was) bad, but we did not have the ambition to win the match”.

“Obviously when you lose matches the mood, the feeling, is not the same”.

“But I think as much as they didn’t create too many chances, I think on our part we didn’t create enough chances either to really go and win that game”.

“I know we play midday on Sunday and in his moment it’s 9pm on Thursday, but we are professionals, let’s not make an excuse for Sunday because we have to play this game”.

Both losses were slender and could have been avoided were it not for ineffective first-half displays – something Shaw says cannot be repeated when they return to domestic action at Watford.

“The second half was when they increased intensity and that was when they conceded the goal”. That said, Martial did look more unsafe than he had done for most of this season, and it could, therefore, be a good decision to keep him in the side. The spirits of the squad are so diminished that manager Jose Mourinho is anxious there might be a hangover heading into the weekend’s match against Watford.

“I wasn’t saying we were a phenomenal team and we’re going to destroy every opponent. I know the situation is not click your fingers and everybody is flawless”, Mourinho was quoted as saying by The Guardian.

“I think we came into this game very confident and we thought we’d get a good result”, Smalling told MUTV.

United were lacklustre going forward but Mourinho insisted his side did not deserve to lose.

The win over West Ham was a big result for Watford, and not just because Troy Deeney and Odion Ighalo got back on the goal trail.

“In the second half, they answered my half-time words and it is not disappointing as it was in our best period that we lost the game”. It is double unlucky because it was a clear offside.

Mourinho also made eight changes to the starting team that was largely outclassed by City five days earlier, resting Wayne Rooney, Luke Shaw, and Antonio Valencia completely, and starting Zlatan Ibrahimovic on the bench. “I know they want to work”.
