Software firm says ut warned Tesla about hands-free Autopilot use
“Tesla’s response to the May 7 crash, wherein the company shifted blame to the camera, and later corrected and shifted blame to the radar, indicated to Mobileye that Mobileye’s relationship with Tesla could not continue”, it said.

However, Tesla said that the Israeli chipmakers statement is inaccurate.
Mobileye, the company which is responsible in making the computer system and camera of Tesla Motors semi-autonomous autopilot says vehicle manufacturer pushed the envelope way too far.
This events ended the partnership between the Israeli chipmaker Mobileye and the auto maker, Tesla Motors.
Musk told reporters on a conference call that the new version of Autopilot would “very likely” have prevented the death of Joshua Brown, an OH man who died when his Tesla Model S drove into a tractor-trailer truck that was crossing a highway in Florida. The sedan slammed into a big rig after Autopilot apparently failed to distinguish between the white truck and the bright sky behind it. No matter how you spin it, (Autopilot) is not designed for that.
Musk also said the revised system will allow a driver’s hands to be off the wheel for up to three minutes while following a vehicle at highway speeds.
Radar was added to Tesla vehicles in 2014, but was meant to supplement the camera and image-processing systems.
“Mobileye’s ability to evolve its technology is unfortunately negatively affected by having to support hundreds of models from legacy auto companies”, he said in a statement. Instead of being supplemental to the camera, the blog post stated that radar alone “can be used as a primary control sensor”. “The camera and the radar will work together”, he said. Mobileye stock, down 9.7% since Monday, fell 0.35% to 39.68 on Thursday.
“Just the fact he came out with something, I think would be a negative for the company and ultimately the stock”, he said, though he later mentioned that Tesla’s stock often doesn’t react as expected. The comments could be seen as a warning to be careful, Selesky said. The car’s driver, 23-year-old Gao Yaning, died in the crash.

Speaking about the incident, Tesla spokesperson Alexis Georgeson said in the company’s statement: “Because of the damage caused by the collision, the auto was physically incapable of transmitting log data to our servers, and we therefore have no way of knowing whether or not Autopilot was engaged at the time of the crash”. However, the carmaker is still perplexed as to how to figure out whether the semi-autopilot mode was engaged during the time of the crash.
