N. Korea calls United States bomber flyover of the South a bluff

If the United States can not punt the problem of North Korea’s nuclear weapons to China it must deal with North Korea directly. But after Pyongyang conducted its fifth and most powerful nuclear test last week and, according to South Korea, was preparing for another, it appears to have no shortage of material to test with.

Asked whether he has any plan to travel to North Korea, Ban said he doesn’t have any plans at this point. Moreover, the sanctions prohibit exports or re-exports of goods, services and technology to North Korea and new investments by USA persons regardless of where they are located.

The Korea Herald also reported that since Monday, two days after North Korea successfully carried out its latest nuclear detonation test, the commission has been screening samples every 12 hours.

That project, believed to have been expanded significantly, is likely the source of up to 150 kilograms (330 pounds) of highly enriched uranium a year, said Siegfried Hecker, a leading expert on the North’s nuclear program.

Death and malnutrition is common inside North Korea’s labor camps, which are being filled with people arrested for attempted defections and cross-border smuggling, according to a recent detainee. “Our (…) party has sent a message of congratulations to our nuclear scientists (…) for having conducted a successful test explosion of a nuclear warhead”, she added.

The Japanese source said Park described North Korea’s nuclear test as a “serious provocation” and “outrageous” violation of global norms.

North Korea says it’s ready to launch another attack against “provocations” by the United States. China’s Foreign Ministry said “it is necessary for the Security Council to further respond to the nuclear test by the DPRK, and their response should be focused on nuclear activities by the DPRK for the goal of resolving the Korean nuclear issue and safeguarding peace and stability of the Korean Peninsula”.

China, the North’s chief ally, backed the March resolution but is more resistant to the harsh new sanctions.

The top diplomats of the three countries are also expected to exchange views on ways to bring China and Russian Federation on board ongoing efforts to enact fresh worldwide sanctions on the North. In 2009 the group split and North Korea resumed nuclear tests.

Russian Federation and China enjoy friendly relations and are now conducting joint military exercises off the southern coast of China, alarming neighbors in the South China Sea.
