September 3 was an exciting day for baseball fans in the Inland Empire as Clayton Kershaw, the ace pitcher for the Los Angeles Dodgers, pitched for the Rancho Cucamonga Quakes in a rehabilitation assignment. Grandal came up next and hit his career-high 22nd homer on the first pitch, extending the lead to 4-0.

De Leon (1-0) gave up four runs and six hits in six innings and didn’t issue a walk.

The Dodgers countered with three runs in the bottom of the third, Turner drawing a one-out walk, Adrian Gonzalez beating the shift with a bunt single to third and Puig cracking a three-run homer to left off Friedrich, a shot that carried significance for both the mercurial right fielder and the Dodgers.
Puig hit his first homer since being recalled Friday from Triple-A Oklahoma City in the bottom of the third inning, when he propelled LHP Christian Friedrich’s 88 miles per hour fastball into the Dodgers’ bullpen down the left-field line for a three-run drive, his eighth homer of the season.
Dodgers: RHP Jose De Leon makes his major league debut. At this point, it’s more of a pitch count deal, making sure that I can contribute and not just go out there. Only Pedro Astacio (1992) and Kaz Ishii (2002) have struck out more in their big-league debut for the Los Angeles Dodgers.
