Browns exec explains why Carson Wentz isn’t worth a No. 2 pick

Philadelphia Eagles quarterback Carson Wentz found out that instead of sitting on the bench for the season, he was going to be given the keys to the offense, and be the team’s starting signal caller THIS season.

After the Sam Bradford trade, many observers assumed that the starting QB job will be handled by Daniel with Wentz reportedly listed as the No. 3 QB for the Eagles before the Bradford deal to Minnesota.

We don’t yet know what makes Wentz tick psychologically, but we have to imagine a player calling your arm speed slow and an executive saying you won’t amount to much has to get the fire burning a little bit. “But right now, where we are, we’ve got a good football team around him”.

On April 20, the Philadelphia Eagles gave up a lot to acquire the Cleveland Browns’ No. 2 overall pick in the 2016 NFL Draft. “The way he led the huddle on Monday at practice, just what he’s done the last couple of days just getting himself ready to go shows you the type of leader and the type of person he is”.

The Broncos, plus other teams, will come calling to Philadelphia about their plans for Chase Daniel. “Just felt real comfortable.so everybody’s going to have their opinion obviously, that’s just the way this business is, but we’re very comfortable with Carson and the direction he’s headed”. With the quarterback gone, it seems the Eagles are ready to turn over the starting quarterback position to rookie Carson Wentz.

“But we knew going forward that last week it would have been pretty close”, Wentz said. “This is what I believe in”.

Pederson addressed the trade of cornerback Eric Rowe, a second-round pick in 2015, to the Patriots for a fourth-round choice in 2018.

But they are confident that Wentz, the No. 2 overall pick in the draft, will succeed, even though he only played in the preseason opener on August 11 before fracturing two ribs in the fourth quarter.

How did Wentz go from third to first?

But when the chuckles settle and the Browns travel to Philadelphia, the Eagles and their ah-shucks farm boy face a daunting challenge.

“Interacting with coach Pederson has been awesome”, Wentz said.

“I spent the weekend with my offensive staff and everybody feels like this kid is ready to go”, Pederson added. There was a lot of excitement going on. “I don’t really make things bigger than they need to be”.

“Without a doubt I’ll be excited”, Wentz said.

Pederson will own the decision to pick the rookie over the veteran to replace the traded Sam Bradford.

Wide receiver Bryce Treggs, whom the Eagles claimed from the San Francisco 49ers, said he was about to sign his practice-squad contract with the 49ers when his agent called and told him the Eagles claimed him. It was right for this football team. “So Carson’s been exposed to everything in our game plan that we put into today, what we’ll put in tomorrow and on Friday”, he said. I’m confident in myself, I’m confident in this team. All the pieces are here for him to be successful and for us to win some games.”But how many? We rely on what they’re seeing and hearing”.
