The Giants scratched Leake from his scheduled start on Tuesday, substituting Ryan Vogelsong in a 2-0 victory over St. Louis.

According to ESPN, Pence was injured on a swing in the ninth inning Monday night against the Cardinals.

Tampa Bay’s Tim Beckham struck a three-run homer within the first-inning to set the Rays up. Hellickson (9-8) allowed 1 run and 3 hits in 5 1/3 innings while striking out 4 and walking 1.

Sorry for the post delay, but wanted to hear Bruce Bochy first on the myriad workings with the Giants. On Sunday he had a double and a solo shot to go with a three-hit, 14 strikeout complete game shutout on the mound. And no matter what Bochy asks, Vogey gives it his all. He was close to getting a win there. Yes, they have some good young arms. “That’s why their record is what it is”. But catcher Andrew Susac could not hold onto the ball. “Sometimes you just can’t get them going and other times they’ll come in bunches, and there’s no reason it shouldn’t for us”.

It almost got him knocked out of the game.

Pirates had an 8-3 lead over the Diamondbacks going into the 8th, but the Dbacks put together 5 runs over two innings to tie it up and send the game into extras.

After two walks and a hit-by-pitch, Bumgarner came around to make it 2-0, and four Giants relievers combined to shut out the Cardinals the rest of the way to make the score stick. But suddenly, the line drives and deep fly balls stopped as Cain found his groove.

“I think finding the strike zone is kind of an issue right now”, Heston said.

“I felt good”, he said.

As for the game, it unraveled.

Starter Jaime Garcia was removed after allowing an infield single by Perez to start the seventh and a sacrifice that moved him to second.

Nicolino (2-1) scattered six hits and allowed just two runs in his fourth major league start. This happened with two outs and no one on base.

AL Central-leading Kansas City needed 13 innings to beat Cincinnati 3-1. Molina slammed it into the left field seats for his milestone homer.

“This time of year is fun”, the right-hander said.

The Washington Nationals remain four and a-half back of the Mets by beating Colorado 15-6 to end a six-game slide. But Bochy did sound like he’s coming around a bit on the idea of letting Bumgarner – who has four homers – pinch hit.

When I said St. Louis would be facing the best team in baseball, I got a lot of argument.

“He hadn’t felt anything as far as I know”, the manager said.
