Syria truce won’t hold: rebel source
Syria’s foreign ministry called for the United Nations Security Council to condemn what it called US aggression and require Washington to respect Syrian sovereignty, it said in a statement carried on the country’s state-owned media.

The Russian Defense Ministry confirmed the attacks saying they killed 62 servicemen and injured 100 more.
A fierce battle between the Syrian army and Islamic state militants was now under way, it said.
The U.S. military said it may have unintentionally struck Syrian troops while carrying out a raid against the Islamic State group on Saturday, which if confirmed would mark the first known direct American strike on President Bashar Assad’s forces.
The Syrian army said its position was briefly overrun by Islamic State after the air strikes, but the ground had since been recaptured.
However Russian President Vladimir Putin says the United States is more focussed on holding onto the rebels’ military capacity than abiding by the terms of the truce, casting doubt on Washington’s commitment to the deal.
Air strikes hit several towns in the central province of Homs and also targeted rebel groups, including fighters from the Fateh al-Sham Front, in the coastal province of Latakia, according to the British-based monitor. It promised to look into the incident. Syria’s state news agency SANA said insurgents have violated the cease-fire 12 times in the last 12 hours.
On Friday, in a phone talk with US Secretary of State John Kerry, Lavrov called on the United States to make the agreement public.
Russia’s foreign minister Sergei Lavrov spoke to his United States counterpart John Kerry by phone on Saturday.
The military says the projectile was intercepted Saturday, without elaborating.
Russia’s Defence Ministry said conditions in Syria were deteriorating, adding that it believed the ceasefire had been breached 199 times by rebels and saying the United States would be responsible if it were to collapse.
The Syrian Observatory for Human Rights, a Britain-based monitoring group with contacts across the country, cited a military source at Deir al-Zor airport as saying that at least 80 Syrian soldiers had been killed.
The closed-door consultations were scrapped after Moscow and Washington failed to agree on how disclose details of the ceasefire to the council. The truce has largely held, despite dozens of alleged violations by both sides.
But the statement did not mention rebel-held areas of Aleppo, which have not received aid since the ceasefire began due to ongoing tensions around the key supply route into the city.
Under the US-Russia deal, if the truce lasts seven days and humanitarian access is granted, Moscow and Washington are to work together to target extremists including Daesh.
In televised remarks during a visit to Kyrgyzstan, Mr Putin said Moscow was keeping to its obligations under the Syrian truce, and the Syrian government was “fully abiding” by the agreement.
He added that the U.S. is facing difficulties since it still can’t separate the opposition from the terrorists, noting that “We see no separation of terrorists and healthy forces, but rather attempts by terrorists to regroup”.

He added that the U.S. “has the desire to keep the capabilities to fight the lawful government of President Assad” and is on a “very risky path”. “In my opinion, this comes from the desire to keep the combat potential in fighting the legitimate government of Bashar Assad. But this is a very risky route”.
