“Starting with the T20s, we have the young Rovman Powell, who has had a very good Caribbean Premier League (CPL)”. The 26-year-old is yet to play in the worldwide circuit.
With temperatures expected to soar to almost 39 degrees Celsius at the weekend, Brathwaite said it was important the West Indies focused intensely on their preparation so they could execute when required. “It’s a big task to represent the West Indies, and away from home is probably a little easier because you don’t have family in the stands with that extra pressure”.
The T20Is between West Indies and Pakistan will be followed by a three-match ODI series and a three- Tests series.
The 28-year-old also gave due credit to the selectors for picking youngsters for the tour.
“It wasn’t as hot early in the year, but, apparently, we’re smack dab in the middle of their summer, so it can get very, very hot”, said Brathwaite. The first T20I will be played on September 23 in Dubai.
“Each and every one of us are professionals and we know what our bodies need to be at optimal strength to perform so it’s just about us doing the things we need to do off the field – planning well, preparing well, practicing well and then evidently performing when the games come”.
The Guardian has reported that the selection panel is not yet convinced that Holder should be removed as leader of the Test team and that he runs the risk of being removed as captain if he fails to produce during the Pakistan series.
Russell’s unavailability might be a blow for West Indies as the all-rounder has added much-needed stability and balance in the team with his all-round abilities.
The West Indies underwent a light gym and pool session on Thursday and will have their first full training session on Friday.
