The victim was wearing a harness but it was not tied to an anchor when he went to inspect a railing on the 48th story terrace of the site at 135 West 52nd Street Thursday afternoon, said a New York City Department of Buildings official.
Travalja was on a deck of the 47th floor of the skyscraper at 135 West 52nd Street when he knelt to take a measurement, before losing his footing and falling over an 18-inch safety barrier.
But his wife, Alexis Travalja, says the firm’s staff said he had misstepped and tripped.
“He was the most honest, hard-working, truthful human being who ever walked the face of the planet”, she said.
She said she and her husband started the firm that builds windows and curtain walls in their basement 11 years ago.
Police and the Fire Department of NY were called to the site between Avenue of the Americas and Seventh Avenue shortly after 2 p.m. where they found Travalja with “trauma to the body”, police said. They had three children. NYPD and Department of Buildings officials are investigating the scene.
