Tennessee Volunteers on upset alert: lead OH 14-12 at half

In rushing, Dobbs ran for 106 yards and 2 touchdowns in 14 carries while Jalen Hurd added 99 yards in 22 carries. The Vols continued to lead the rest of the way, though OH stayed close throughout. They’re banged up and they just don’t have the caliber of payers that Tennessee has at their disposal. Windham is averaging 280 yards passing and 91.5 yards rushing per game.

Even with the late touchdowns, Alabama’s offense has looked like a unit with trouble running the ball and helmed by a true freshman quarterback. OH is attempting to beat a Power Five team for the second straight week after winning 37-21 at Kansas.

The back half of the schedule sees Tennessee play a stretch of three road games over four weeks, visiting Alabama on the third Saturday of October (Oct. 21) and Kentucky the following week (Oct. 28).

“Certainly it’s a great challenge to play Tennessee, and you know I think our players look forward to those kinds of challenges”, OH coach Frank Solich said. “We’re gonna play a really, really good football team”. On Sutton’s impact on the team, Jones added, “You give me 11 Cam Suttons, and we’ll win a lot of football games”. 10/1. Tennessee coach Butch Jones knows Solich well from his own Mid-American Conference background.

When asked about next week’s game against Florida, “Ya know, it’s the most important game because it’s the next game”, said Jones.

Jones noted that OH lost 31-29 to Appalachian State in last season’s Camellia Bowl after leading 24-7.

The Volunteers were fortunate to escape with an overtime victory against Appalachian State in their opener.

OH could provide just the matchup Tennessee needs to get things going with its passing attack.

OH offensive line vs. Tennessee defensive line. Tennessee’s Derek Barnett, who recorded 10 sacks each in 2014 and 2015, is still seeking his first sack of the season.

Tennessee likely will continue to rotate up front after doing so against Virginia Tech last week.

Tennessee: The Vols won but made plenty of mistakes they can’t afford to repeat once SEC play starts. After a penalty-fueled Bobcats drive to cut the lead to 7-3, Micah Abernathy fumbled the ensuing kickoff, the first of three fumbles on the afternoon, all of which would be recovered by Tennessee.

OH will have an uphill battle in this one: After losing in triple overtime to Texas State, the Bobcats topped Kansas last week on the road.

In the first half, OH had three drives stall in the red zone to result in three successful field goals off the leg of Louis Zervos. However, they remained tough and held the Bobcats to four field goals, rather than giving up touchdowns. Malone caught five passes for 69 yards and junior running back Jalen Hurd added a rushing touchdown for Tennessee, which opens SEC play against Florida next Saturday.
