Former USC football coach Steve Sarkisian will meet with Alabama officials to discuss the possibility of joining the team’s coaching staff.

While the momentum was palpable in what wound up being Lane Kiffin’s revenge game, a lack of offensive success, countless mistakes and overall shocking execution make it hard to fathom how USC could’ve fared differently.

Of the many storylines in Alabama’s 52-6 win over USC, one that can not go overlooked was Crimson Tide offensive coordinator Lane Kiffin facing off against the program he coached from 2010-13.

USC initially suspended Sarkisian indefinitely in October 2015 following multiple incidents that detailed an alleged substance-abuse problem. We’re looking forward to see how we measure up, but it will be a tough, tough game.

NOTES: Redshirt freshman Blake Barnett got the start at quarterback for Alabama. Those are the types of questions that Nick Saban asked himself after the game.

“We’re glad to have him as part of the organization”, Saban told news reporters.

Alabama’s hiring of Sarkisian based on his coaching resume isn’t surprising.

Following his dismissal, Sarkisian filed a $30 million wrongful termination lawsuit against Southern Cal, claiming his alcoholism was a state-mandated disability. Sarkisian worked with Kiffin at USC as co-offensive coordinators.

Against the Trojans, Sims caught one pass for 12 yards.

Coach Saban discussed the upcoming game against Western Kentucky and one other major announcement. For one, the Crimson Tide has a history of coming out relatively flat (not losing, but not winning as convincingly) in these Week 2 nonconference games under Saban that follow a high-profile opening victory.

Barnett added a 45-yard touchdown after returning in the third quarter, and finished 5-of-6 passing for 100 yards.

“Hopefully it’s a statement we’re still going to fight, still going to play”, Stewart said about the team’s performance. “They played to their potential”.

“We played a very good team today, and they played up to their potential”, Helton said after the game. The quarterback who at this point a year ago was playing high school ball in Texas, and not in the Dallas Cowboys’ NFL stadium, added touchdown runs of 7 and 6 yards to make it 38-3 before he exited late in the third quarter. “He will be back and playing after this game”. While receiver Gehrig Dieter, linebacker Shaun Dion Hamilton, running back Damien Harris and corner back Marlon Humphrey were the scheduled players for interviews, that didn’t stop linebacker Reuben Foster and defensive end Jonathan Allen from sneaking up for some free chicken.
