La.Tech can’t keep up with Texas Tech

Texas Tech sophomore wide receiver Jonathan Giles had a career night, and quarterback Patrick Mahomes made a case for himself to be included in the latest batch of Heisman contenders as Texas Tech beat Louisiana Tech 59-45.

Texas Tech went up 21-3 on a second connection between Mahomes and Giles – this one a 36-yard touchdown pass.

The Bulldogs fell behind 35-10 and couldn’t quell the Red Raiders up-tempo offense enough to pull off a comeback.

Mahomes dazzled the home crowd with pin-point throws, off-balance throws and quarterback runs to lead the Red Raiders to nearly 700 yards of total offense.

Louisiana Tech got on the scoreboard first in the second half with a one-yard run that finished off a 12-play, 75-yard drive.

The Red Raiders (2-1) didn’t punt through three quarters and scored on six of their first seven possessions.

Not many teams stop Texas Tech and its top-ranked passing offense in the country, but La. “I thought offensively we handled the situation better, ” Kingsbury said.

Meanwhile, La. Tech’s offense couldn’t keep pace despite going up against a Texas Tech defense that allowed 68 points to Arizona State last week.

Toward the end of the second quarter, Texas Tech was up 35-10.

In the third quarter, the Texas Tech offense kept scoring, putting up touchdowns after consecutive 11 play drives. “We had it but we weren’t getting the right looks for it, and it just worked out tonight”.

LOUISIANA TECH: The Bulldogs continue their road games when they travel to Middle Tennessee.

Texas Tech’s next game is Thursday, September 29 against Kansas at Jones AT&T Stadium.
