Trump closes door on one falsehood, opens door to another

Electing the billionaire, she warned, would be a “historic mistake”. This is not a reality TV show.

The Obama-Clinton foreign policy has included unenforced “red lines” in Syria; dismissing ISIS as a “jayvee team” while allowing it to grow into the most risky terrorist organization in the world today; weakening our border security; admitting thousands of refugees into our country without any plans to properly screen them; reducing the size and strength of our military, and rewarding Iran – the world’s largest state-sponsor of terrorism – with a sweetheart deal that paves the way for economic recovery and the eventual achievement of nuclear weapons capability.

Clinton’s campaign is relying on the Obamas to help persuade the coalition of minorities, young people and women who propelled them to the White House to cast ballots for this year’s Democratic candidate.

Within minutes, the Clinton campaign condemned the remark.

Unlike her husband, who forged a strong bond with Clinton during her four years as his secretary of state, Mrs. Obama does not have a particularly close relationship with the Democratic nominee, though the two are said to be friendly. “Take their guns away … let’s see what happens to her”.

As of early Saturday, he and his campaign had not commented on the response to his latest statement. And the campaign will show Clinton in governing mode by scheduling meetings with world leaders.

She also lamented that some voters view her as aloof. “And neither do my friends”.

The campaign hopes that such public shows of humility, alongside a series of speeches created to lay out her vision for the country, will persuade voters to reconsider their feelings about Clinton. At a political event in Wilmington, North Carolina in August, Trump spoke to a crowd of supporters about Clinton’s possible choices for Supreme Court judges who might lean towards stricter gun control.

He added that the people of Venezuela “are yearning to be free, they are yearning for help”. Invitations to some creative media appearances, such as a turn on the “Funny or Die” comedy site, have been accepted to play up the warm, self-effacing Clinton that friends say they see in private.

The strategy is created to address Clinton’s biggest political liability: A majority of voters don’t trust her. Many Democrats would accuse her of malpractice if she does not.

A growing percentage of Oklahoma voters hold a favorable view of Clinton, the poll suggests. Trump ranked only slightly lower at 31 percent. He acknowledged that Obama was born in America, but then incorrectly suggested that Clinton had started the conspiracy theory during the 2008 presidential contest. “I mean, he missed that whole civics lesson about slavery or Jim Crow”, Obama said. “She has not articulated a positive vision”.

Clinton and her allies brushed off the week’s new numbers as an expected development in what the Democratic candidate said was always going to be “a tight race”. In the must-win states of Florida and Ohio, Trump and Clinton are deadlocked in this week’s CNN/ORC poll, as well as several other surveys. The Republican nominee and his backers only spent about $38 million in the same period.

Not all fault lies with Republicans. Disarm immediately, Trump said. “Do they, at every point you’re with them, reveal totally who they are?”

“Part of what makes her so appealing and effective as a surrogate is that she’s relentlessly positive, even when things on the campaign trail get negative”, said Olivia Alair Dalton, Mrs. Obama’s former spokeswoman.
