Hurts shines as No. 1 Tide rout USC 52

Alabama coach Nick Saban confirmed Monday that Sarkisian is joining his staff as an offensive analyst. “We’re glad to have him as part of the organization, and hopefully he’ll be able to get back on his feet professionally and this will be beneficial to him”.

Offensive coordinator Lane Kiffin wasn’t afraid to utilize it. Hurts ran nine times for 32 yards and a pair of scores, and he also extended plays enough to keep Alabama moving and USC at arm’s length.

Trailing 3-0 after one quarter, No. 1 Alabama had to be wondering if it would be the next SEC program to go down in its season-opener, especially when its first five drives ended in four punts and a fumble.

“We talked about it, really, quite a while ago”, Saban said Monday. “We played a very good team”, USC coach Clay Helton said.

Sarkisian, 42, filed a multi-million dollar wrongful termination lawsuit against the university in December, alleging he was not allowed to seek treatment for alcoholism. USC initially suspended Sarkisian indefinitely in October 2015 following multiple incidents that detailed an alleged substance-abuse problem. We’ll continue to help him in his personal life.

“Ronnie Harrison is a fine young man, it’s totally out of character for him, he’s apologized for it and is very sorry for it and I don’t think that’ll ever be an issue again”.

USC was 12-6 in Sarkisian’s 18 games as head coach.

During Alabama’s 52-6 pummeling of USC on Saturday, tempers were tested. After all, Kiffin is just 41 and could be an attractive hire for a school looking to make a splash with a new head coach. After all, WKU did beat USM 45-28 in the C-USA title game in Bowling Green, Ky., last year. The Hilltoppers took down Rice 46-14 in their opener this past Thursday.

Alabama heads into this week’s home opener against Western Kentucky as a 27-point favorite, according to VegasInsider.com.

Ronald Jones was stuffed for a gain of two yards, quarterback Max Browne was sacked and then threw an incomplete pass on a third down throw short of the sticks.

That Crimson Tide defense, down four players taken in the first two rounds of the National Football League draft last spring, is still physical and dominating, too. Nowhere near the number of players coming back.
