The new design for the performing arts center at the World Trade Center has been revealed.

The design details for the theater come just a few days before the 15th anniversary of the September 11 attacks, and more than 10 years after plans for an arts space at the World Trade Center site began.
Although the center partially serves as a memorial, it’s also a symbol of the neighborhood’s post-9/11 revitalization. During the day, it will have a tiresome sheen. During the day, it will have a boring sheen, but at night, the three-level building will light up like a paper lantern. “REX teamed with Charcoalblue to imagine the vast potential of the space; the production level’s three performance spaces and seven movable acoustic walls will allow for 11 different configurations that will house everything from intimate shows sans microphones to rock concerts attended by 1,200 people”. The billionaire businessman donated $75 million for the $250 million project in June.
Officials have said the donation will fund the center’s construction, endowment and operations.
The center had been bogged down by years of budget issues and redesigns, but last year, hope was renewed when the theater was finally given approval for its pared-down budget of about $240 million by the Lower Manhattan Development Corporation – a cut from its initial $400 million estimate.
