United States election: Clinton security should be disarmed, says Trump

“I guess Trump had to say he wasn’t, for politics”.

The Republican presidential candidate was repeating his claims that his Democratic rival wants to remove American citizens’ right to bear arms.

“Even when hateful nonsense is thrown their way, Barack, Michelle, their two attractive daughters have represented our country with class, grace and integrity”, said Clinton, who served as Obama’s secretary of state.

“Leading the birther movement is deplorable, ” Clinton tweeted after his Friday event.

“Donald Trump is nothing more than a two-bit racial arsonist, who for decades has done nothing but fan the flames of bigotry and hatred”, said Rep. Hakeem Jeffries, D-New York.

Trump was criticised by opponents last month when he suggested that gun rights activists could act to stop Clinton from nominating liberal US Supreme Court justices, a comment some interpreted as encouraging a political assassination.

Mr Trump spoke against a backdrop reading “Les Deplorables” – a reference to his rival’s recent controversial comments about some of his supporters. Speaking to mostly students at George Mason University, she repeatedly jabbed Trump without mentioning him by name, declaring that being president “isn’t anything like reality TV”. And it centered around the “birther” issue that fueled his political rise.

He generally avoided the issue during the GOP primary, and Friday marked the first time he said in no uncertain terms he was mistaken. “I finished it”, Trump declared Friday in a brief statement at the end of a televised campaign appearance in which he touted his new hotel and his endorsements from military veterans. “I just dont want to answer it yet.”.

So Trump has floated the idea of Clinton disarming her guards on many occasions before.

“This man wants to be our next president?

“He’s feeding into the worst impulses, the bigotry and bias that lurks in our country”, she added.

Clinton’s campaign is relying on the Obamas to help persuade the coalition of minorities, young people and women who propelled them to the White House to cast ballots for this year’s Democratic candidate.

Meanwhile, the Trump campaign prevented editorial access to his tour of the hotel.

As recently as 2014, Trump suggested that Obama’s birth certificate was faked, and in 2013 he even suggested that the late state health official who certified the birth certificate had been murdered. In August 2012, for example, he was pushing the issue on Twitter. “I don’t know. But I tell you what, that will be a disgusting day”. Trump asked the crowd.

Clinton said that “there is no erasing” Trump’s role in spreading the “birther” gospel. “I mean, I have my own theory on Obama”. Someday Ill write a book.”.

In harsh rebuke of Trump, Obama referred to him as “somebody who has fought against civil rights and fought against equality and who has shown no regard for working people most of his life”.

“No one is prouder to put this birth certificate matter to rest than The Donald”, Obama said.

On the day he released the document, Obama jabbed at Trump, saying, “We’re not going to be able to solve our problems if we get distracted by sideshows and carnival barkers”.
