“Super Mario Run” iOS game announced by Nintendo at Apple Keynote Event

During the Apple event today, Shigeru Miyamoto came on stage to reveal the game, which is an automatic runner similar to Ubisoft’s mobile Rayman games.

This is how Apple CEO Tim Cook announced the most famous character in videogame history – Super Mario – would be making his iOS debut.

It is an endless runner game, with similar styling to the classic 2D platform games starring the plump plumber.

The game is actually a little Flappy Bird-esque-though not almost as hard or frustrating-which is amusing, as Mario automatically runs left-to-right across the screen, while his jumping is controlled with a single tap by the player. It could even be as big a deal as Pokemon Go. While Mario Run will initially be exclusively available to Apple users an Android version will follow. While Nintendo says the app will offer in-app purchases, it’s not free-to-play, and will instead sell for a set price. But in the iOS video game, Mario is constantly moving and his movements on the gameplay depend on the players’ tapping motion.

“We have created Super Mario Run to be ideal for playing on your iPhone”, Miyamoto said during the event. “At long last, Mario jumps into a new adventure on iPhone and iPad, this time playable using only one hand”.

– The first mode features challenging courses for you to complete. Throughout the presentation, Nintendo showcased some of the game, which will let you collect coins, compete against other players, and create your own Mushroom Kingdom.

We’ll let you know more details on the Super Mario Run release date when we can but for now you can sign up for a notification on the App Store.
