Vargas returns as Royals top White Sox, 3-2

After taking a flawless game through 4 ⅓ during Friday’s 7-1 win over the Royals, Sale lost the bid on a Salvador Perez ground ball, then carried the White Sox through another 4 ⅔ frames for his sixth complete game of the season.

KANSAS CITY, Mo. (AP) – Chris Sale got some unexpected help to get his 16th win. The Chicago White Sox offense has been hit or miss lately, and they’ve won five of their last six games when scoring more than three runs.

“I threw my arms up in the air”, Sale said of the Sanchez homer. That’s your team fighting for you right there. “It’s insane. nearly surreral, you know?” It’s your team fighting back against one of the best (Herrera). It’s okay, though, we’re going to do the heavy lifting for you each morning, and find the things you need to see from within the SB Nation baseball network, as well as from elsewhere.

Jason Vargas, pitching for the first time since July 21 of past year, battled back after a shaky first inning.

“We had opportunities”, White Sox manager Robin Ventura said. When he’s hitting it well, it’ll carry. Trying to find all of it while on your way to work or sitting at your desk just isn’t easy. “This is, I hope, the start of that for him in his career”. The four-run inning, gave Sale a boost to finish the game.

“It changes the complete landscape of the game honestly. I just have to go out and not mess up too badly”. The Royals are 5-1 in their last 6 Sunday games and 0-4 in Duffys last 4 starts. Their number for postseason elimination dropped to nine as they fell seven games back in the American League Wild Card standings.

Herrera (2-5) blew his third save in 14 chances.

“I’m glad it’s over now”, Yost said. “It was a little off”. “I felt really good about everything that happened up to this point. This is a tough league”.

Chicago second baseman Carlos Sanchez, who last homered in late September last season, hit a three-run homer off Kelvin Herrera to break a 4-4 tie and send the White Sox to a 7-4 victory over the Royals on Friday night at Kauffman Stadium.

Vargas started off shaky, allowing a hit to the second batter he faced, and the second hit a couple of batters later. “It was a grind”.

Sale retired the first 13 batters he faced before giving up seven hits and four runs to the next 10 batters.

Salvador Perez’s single with one out in the fifth was the Royals’ first hit. Garcia hit a ground ball right to Cheslor Cuthbert, but the ball hit the corner of the bag, causing it to roll towards the left-field corner.

RF Hunter Dozier, the Royals’ 2013 first-round pick, started his first big league game Friday.

CF Billy Burns batted leadoff for the first time. Kendrys Morales singled home Merrifield.

Tim Anderson singled, advanced on Jose Abreu’s fielder’s choice and scored on Cabrera’s 73 RBI of the year.

Melky Cabrera blasted a solo homer in the ninth off Peter Moylan to stretch the lead to three runs.

The Royals designated RHP Chien-Ming Wang, who went 6-0 with a 4.22 ERA in 32 bullpen outings, for assignment. Tepesch, a former Missouri star, is 7-15 in 35 games, including 33 starts, in the majors with the Rangers and Dodgers.

White Sox: DH Justin Morneau has not played since Monday, when he hurt his neck swinging against the Indians. He was scheduled to throw batting practice Friday, but a pregame rain canceled that.
