New York’s mayor, Bill de Blasio, commented that the Chelsea blast was an “intentional act” however, he maintained that there had been no “specific and credible” terror threat made against the city.

Hours after the first explosion, a secondary device in the form of a pressure cooker was found blocks away, CNN reported.
The blast occurred at about 8.30pm (local time) between 6th Avenue and 7th Avenue on 23rd Street, a major east-west thoroughfare in the fashionable downtown neighbourhood, J Peter Donald, a deputy commissioner with the New York Police Department, said on Twitter.

The second device that officers removed four blocks from the scene was a pressure cooker attached to wiring and a cellphone.
“Tonight, New York City experienced a very bad incident”, de Blasio said at a news conference near the scene in Chelsea.
The reports of a possible blast comes hours after a pipe bomb exploded in Seaside Park, New Jersey, shortly before thousands of runners participated in a charity 5K race to benefit Marines and sailors.
“Let’s try to figure out as much as we can by having the experts and professionals go through this and try to determine what you have to in order to trace it back and see who’s behind it”.
At least three people were seen being taken away from the scene of the blast in ambulances, but the severity of their injuries was not immediately clear.
Mr Anderson said police have no evidence to believe more than one person was involved in the attack. “My 10-year-old boy was sat in the back seat of the auto, and the explosion blew the back window out”, said Tsi Tsi Mallett, who was in a vehicle driving along 23rd Street when the explosion took place. Officials said no evacuations were necessary.
The explosion, described by one neighbour as “deafening”, happened outside the Associated Blind Housing facility at 135 W. 23rd Street.
“It was really loud, it hurt my eardrums”.
