Syrian soldiers killed in air strikes blamed on US
The agreement had been brokered by Russian Federation, which supports Syrian President Bashar Assad’s regime, and the US, which supports the opposition forces.

She said Russia’s decision to call a council meeting was “cynical and hypocritical” as Moscow had never expressed such outrage at the killing of civilians by Syrian government forces during more than five years of conflict.
Russian Federation called for an emergency session of the U.N. Security Council and demanded “full and detailed explanations about whether this was deliberate support of the Islamic State or another mistake”.
US ambassador to the United Nations Samantha Power said Saturday that the attack was immediately halted upon being informed that the strikes may have been hitting Syrian military vehicles and troops.
The attack comes on the fifth day of a fragile US-Russia brokered ceasefire between Syrian regime aligned forces and various rebel factions that has largely held despite violations on both sides.
“I would be very interested to see how Washington is going to react”.
Mr Churkin said if Ms Power’s actions were any indication of Washington’s possible reaction then the ceasefire agreement is “in serious trouble”.
“Warplanes from the American coalition hit one of the Syrian army’s positions. near the Deir Ezzor airport”, the statement said, adding that there were “casualties” but without giving a number. “Now there can be no doubts about that”, the RIA Novosti news agency quoted Russian Foreign Ministry spokeswoman Maria Zakharova as saying. The ceasefire stipulated by the agreement came into force on September 12.
A Russian Defense Ministry official said Syria has informed them that 62 of its soldiers were killed in the airstrike.
The Syrian army has been fighting IS since previous year near Deir el-Zour.
During the week since the ceasefire agreement went into effect, there have been reports of the Syrian government preventing humanitarian aid from reaching their destinations. The United States immediately withdrew and did not strike other planned targets in that area, the official said.
All the warring parties are also sworn enemies of Islamic State, whose territory extends along the Euphrates valley from the Iraqi border, including around Deir al-Zor, up to land near Syria’s frontier with Turkey.
Almost half a million people have been killed in the Syrian conflict since 2011.
“Coalition forces believed they were striking a Daesh fighting position”, Central Command, known as Centcom, said in a statement on Saturday, using an alternate term for the IS group. Syrian state-run news agency SANA said the military was able to regain control of the area ISIS held briefly.

Under the US-Russia deal, if the truce lasts seven days and humanitarian access is granted, Moscow and Washington are to work together to target jihadists including the Islamic State group (ISIS).
